looking for reviews of the aph braille plus 18

Hi all, I'm looking for any info I can find on the new braille plus 18 from aph. If anyone here has one or has used one, I'd love to hear what you think. I have a few questions specifically: How is it with word processing? Does it have a spellchecker, and other modern day word processing features? Does it have dropbox support? How would you rate it in general, or compared to other notetakers?

I would be interested in knowing this as well. I'm very interested in getting one, and have been since it was released. However, I can speculate that since it's running Android, though I can't remember which version off the top of my head, and is supposed to be compatible with available Android aps, it's conceivable that word processing and Dropbox aps would be available. Whether all aps would be accessible, of course, is another story. I don't know if a Dropbox ap even exists for Android, but I know there's one for Sendspace. My boyfriend uses it all the time.

yeah. They say the firmware is subject to change on the website. I wish I could get a manual for it, but it doesn't eem to be online. They probably don't wanna give it out till you buy it. lol

The fact its gingerbred, would have me running in the other way. Sorry gingerbred is a OS that is plagued with lag issues and normally its not that quick. When they up this device to jelly bean, relize that a touch screen is actually needed for some apps on the play store then I might give a it a try. Oh ya, the processor needs to be bumped up to at least a dule core to keep up with current hardware.

The length and width are less than the Apex, But I think it's a little bit thicker. Also, the screen at power on is alot like the Apex setup. As far as I have used it, everything seems pretty easy to navigate, except the internet, which I haven't been able to figure out. I don't see a spell checker in the word processor, and I haven't found a way to print or emboss;; but I haven't tried downloading any apps from the Android store, either. There may be other options out there. It does seem to freeze up alot, but I've never used another Android device, so maybe I just don't have the right touch yet. I've also played around with it's scanning a little bit, but haven't gotten anything other than jibberish, and again, this could be due to me, not to the device. I think the NBP Android notetaker which is supposed to come out this fall will be running Jellybean. I'm excited to play around with that one. If anyone has any suggestions for using the internet on the BP18 though, they would be appreciated.

I did a look around the NBP site for any info on this new android device and couldn't find anything. I did hear a podcast from Blind Bargains on it, but past that, what else is out there, and ware on the NBP site can i learn more? was surprised to see nothing on the blog which is the place i thought would make sense to look first.

It is discussed on the development page. It is being designed by Dean Blazie. I'm hoping it is the device to replace my venerable Braille Lite. The release is projected for the fall.

Oh damn. You still have a Braille Lite? I have one, but it's packed away somewhere. It hasn't been charged or even really thought about in years, so I doubt it still works.

I am good at keeping aging technology alive and functioning. It still works for me.
